V850 Core

The ancestor of all of NEC Electronics' 32-bit microcontrollers is the original V850 core. Though once very popular, it is no longer used for new microcontroller designs since its successors, the V850ES and V850E1/E2 cores, are readily available.

The V850ES is optimized for lowest costs, making it an ideal choice for applications often served by 16-bit microcontrollers. To complement this, the V850E1 core was designed for high performance. Later, its successor, the V850E2, pushed the performance bar even further.
