NEC Electronics' Activities


As a group company of NEC, a core member of the USB Implementers Forum, NEC Electronics has played a key role in the development of both technology and market for USB 2.0, and will continue to make active contributions in the field of Wireless USB.

To date, NEC Electronics has released the µPD720170 system LSI for hosts, and the µPD720180 system LSI for devices. These LSIs can be connected to the physical layer (PHY) of a Wi-Media compliant UWB to provide Wireless USB functionalities.


USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF)

A non-profit organization responsible for formulating the USB specifications. Consists of industry leaders such as Intel Corporation, and oversees the development of USB.


WiMedia Alliance

A non-profit organization responsible for the standardization of UWB, a wireless connectivity technology used for Wireless USB. NEC Electronics was originally a member of MBOA-SIG (Multiband OFDM Alliance Special Interest Group), which merged with the WiMedia Alliance in 2005.


NEC Electronics is collaborating with the following companies to develop reference designs for more efficient development of Wireless USB systems.
